Reason #1 why getting married is really cool.
Dating. Dates with Shaner were litterally the only good dates I ever went on as a single person. He won the award for best dates by so much it's incalculable. I once went on a blind date with a 4th grade teacher. My grandmother set it up. I know she had good intentions... He picked me up in his green dodge neon, told me about how money was tight (why did you call and ask me out then?), and drove to eat at subway. His then told me his plan for the rest of the date was to play games at the mall. I'm thinking arcade games, ok, I can roll with that. Yea, no, he brought checkers and a puzzle. TO THE MALL. Being the gracious date I was, I smiled and played checkers in the food court of Southtowne Mall while praying my friends would not come and laugh at me, or that maybe they would come save me. He drove me home, I gave him a hug, and never returned his call for a second date.
Also while we are on the subject, I am glad people no longer worry about me growing old alone and want to set me up with their 37 year old jobless brother, commitment-phobe cousin, or one-date-wonder friend.
Reason #2 why getting married is the ish.
Family. I love my family. We drive each other nuts sometimes, but we really do love each other. They have always been supportive and there for me. When I wanted to go to photography school in San Fancisco, they tried everthing to get me there. When we put my Dot to sleep, my dad bought me a cheeseburger on our way home, because that's what good ole' fashion comfort food is to me, and when I got frustrated with planning this whole wedding shebang, my sister was there to tell me, "You are getting married, live it up and enjoy it!."
Now I get to times the family fabulosity by two. I get ridiculously cute nieces and a nephew, which I've always wanted (and I never had the balls to ask my younger sister to get pregnant). Shane's parents are so nice, his brothers are so funny, and Melissa, you are the bomb. Melissa is always cracking me up, she looks so fantastic everytime I see her, and I feel like I could talk to her about anything. I know I am so lucky to be a part of their family.
Reason #3 why getting married makes my toes tingle.
Love. Last the best of all the game. Shane is it for me. He is the only person I see. The only person who ever made me feel like a real woman, the kind who deserved to be happy. I didn't know I was walking around as an incomplete person until I fell in love with him, and although I had said those three words before, I had never felt it in the core of my being like I do now. It's so obvious why it could have never worked with anyone else. I know I will only grow to love him more, and that is the most exciting thing of all.
Happy Ending.
(Also, maybe this is innappropriate, but another awesome thing about marriage is that you never have to worry about not getting laid before you die. Just sayin'.)
