And the Word Tender Came to Mind

This is Frank and Dorothy. Frank and Dorothy have been married for 62 years. They have 4 children, 15 grandchildren, and 2 great grand babies. They have owned approximately 6 dogs, 2 houses, 3 minivans, and 1 wood-paneled station wagon. Dorothy hates when Frank leaves his shoes in the middle of the hallway, but still giggles when he makes a joke, and Frank hates that Dorothy is a neat-freak, but he still loves the way she giggles. They have gone on nightly walks for years and still appreciate the peace and comfort of the others conversation.

As I was on a very routine drive to Mr. S' house on Monday night, I saw "Frank" and "Dorothy" going for their nightly walk. They walked on the right side of the road, and just like the picture, Frank was on the right of Dorothy and she was on his left. When my car started to approach them Frank gently placed his left hand on her back and moved her to the right side, so she was not the body closest to the street. My brain instantly thought "Oh! He is protecting her! That's so sweet!" I loved it. I don't know these two people, but this simple motion of this old man moving the woman he obviously loves so she wouldn't get hit by oncoming traffic, caught me of guard in the best way. Friggin' cute old people.
This small gesture reminded me of a trip Mr. S and I took last January to Vegas. We were walking along the strip and Mr. S moved to the outside edge of the sidewalk, so he was closest to the street. After I asked why, he explained that if a car came, he didn't want it to hit me. He acted like it was nothing, but to me it was HUGE.
When I got to Mr. S' house two minutes after the Frank and Dorothy moment, I told him I just saw us in 60 years and proceeded to tell him about "Frank" and "Dorothy" (It’s a shame I hadn't named them yet, I am kinda fond of "Frank" and "Dorothy"!). It was such a simple gesture, but yet, I think simple might be better than the big gestures.
Thank you, Frank and Dorothy, for making my little heart melt!
