Proust.

Every month when we get our copy of Vanity Fair at the office, I turn to the very last page and read the Proust Questionnaire.

Marcel Proust was a essayist and novelist who believed that the answers one gave to these questions would reveal their innermost thoughts and genuine self.

It is completely fascinating and everyone's answers are never the identical.

My answers:

1. What is your idea of perfect happiness?

a. When you care more for someone else’s happiness than your own. Prego and whole wheat spaghetti come in a close second.

2. What is your greatest fear?

a. Not being as strong as the people I love may someday need me to be.

3. Which historical figure do you most identify with?

a. I wish I were more like Christ, but I am not nearly alike enough to identify. I don’t favor any single figure in particular, but I admire qualities like loyalty, courage, honesty, and standing up for what you believe in no matter the consequence. It’s rumored I once answered this question in a job interview with Rosa Parks. Strange? Probably.

4. Which living person do you most admire?

a. Stephanie Nielson. I don’t personally know her, but her story makes me cry every time I think about it. Like right now.

5. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

a. Forgetfulness and always wanting (or even caring) to know what everyone is thinking.

6. What is the trait you most deplore in others?

a. The attitude of entitlement and those who think they know it all.

7. What is your greatest extravagance?

a. Time to relax and laugh with my husband.

8. What is your favorite journey?

a. Any journey is a good one.

9. What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

a. Obedience

10. On what occasion do you lie?

a. When drug addicts ask for money.

11. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

a. “I’m sorry”, “It’s hard to say”, and “Obviously!”

12. What is your greatest regret?

a. No regrets, just some dang good lessons.

13. What or who is the greatest love of your life?

a. The one and only Mr. S.

14. When and where were you happiest?

a. Salt Lake Temple. 11/14/09. Being sealed to the love of my life.

15. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

a. My need to wear socks at every possible moment or my love to gossip, but really I just am who I am and have come to terms, and actually kinda like myself. God gave me these characteristics for some reason or another right?

16. What do you consider your greatest achievement?

a. Finally being able to love with reckless abandon.

17. If you could choose what to come back as, what would it be?

a. A lion. I have this weird desire to own one as a pet, and since that isn’t foreseeable, maybe I could be one in the next life?

18. What is your most treasured possession?

a. My wedding ring.

19. What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

a. Putting a really good dog to sleep.

20. Where would you like to live?

a. Digory Drive, South Jordan, Utah 84095.

21. What is your favorite occupation?

a. Wonder woman. I even have a sparkly blue corset.

22. What is your most marked characteristic?

a. Sadly enough, my clumsiness.

23. What is the quality you most like in a man?

a. Quiet confidence and strength.

24. What is the quality you most like in a woman?

a. Femininity and honoring being a woman.

25. What do you most value in your friends?

a. Good conversation is what I love them for, but I really value their ability to be there

26. Who are your favorite writers?

a. I love memoirs, so I like writers who are willing to go that distance.

27. What is it that you most dislike?

a. Loosing socks and Addison’s Disease.

28. How would you like to die?

a. In my sleep after a well-lived life.

29. What is your motto?

a. I don’t have a motto, but I always have a plan.
